CAIA’s 2024 Sustainability Report

The Canadian Aquaculture Industry Alliance (CAIA) has released its inaugural Sustainability Report for 2024, outlining seven national commitments to enhance the sustainability of salmon farming in Canada. These commitments focus on areas such as fish health, climate change mitigation, food traceability, sustainable feed, ocean health, food security, and public reporting. The report highlights achievements including a historic low in farmed salmon escapes in 2022, the industry’s position as having the lowest carbon footprint among large-scale farmed animal species, and full traceability of products from egg to plate. CAIA emphasizes its dedication to continuous improvement and transparency, aiming to position Canadian farm-raised salmon as the world’s most sustainable animal protein source.
